The agreement
These terms apply when you use Patratus, its website or its API. By using them you accept these terms. If you use Patratus for an organization, you accept them for that organization and confirm that you may do so. If your organization has signed a separate agreement with us, that agreement applies where it differs from these terms.
The privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
The service
Patratus helps civic organizations see who governs their place, research issues and plan their work. It shows public records, such as public bodies, meetings and public documents, alongside each organization’s own private workspace. We improve the service over time, so features can change. Some features are offered as early access and may change more often.
Accounts
- You must be at least 16, and old enough where you live to accept these terms.
- Give accurate information, keep your sign-in details safe, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. An organization’s owners decide who belongs to it and what each member may do. See Admin.
Plans, trials and payment
- The plans, their limits and their prices are on the price list. See Plans and billing.
- An organization can have one free trial. A trial started in the app asks for no card, charges nothing and never turns into a paid plan by itself.
- When payments are switched on, a paid plan is charged through Clerk Billing and Stripe at the price shown when you choose it, for each billing period, until it is cancelled. How tax applies is set out with the final prices.
- Cancelling keeps the plan until the end of the period already paid for. After that, or when a trial ends without a plan, the organization lapses: nothing is deleted, and everything stays readable and exportable.
Your content
- What you and your organization put into Patratus stays yours.
- You allow us to store, copy, process and show it only as needed to run the service for you. That includes sending it to the companies named in the privacy policy, and to our own AI server when AI runs.
- You confirm that you have the right to upload what you add, including any personal information about other people, and that your organization handles that information lawfully.
- Your organization can export all of its data at any time.
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
Public records and AI
- Public records come from government and other public sources, and each one shows where it came from. They can be incomplete, late or wrong. Check the original source before you rely on one.
- AI can make mistakes. What it proposes waits for a person to approve it, and you are responsible for what you approve, publish or send. See AI.
Acceptable use
Do not use Patratus to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- build voter files, donation records, party registration lists or profiles of private individuals’ beliefs or personality;
- harass, threaten or intimidate anyone;
- upload malware or anything you have no right to share;
- reach data that is not yours, or test, probe or get around the service’s security or limits;
- overload the service, or copy it in bulk by automated means other than the API keys we provide.
You are responsible for following the rules that apply to your organization, such as lobbying, campaign-finance and nonprofit rules.
Closing and suspension
- You can stop using Patratus at any time. An organization’s owner can ask us to close it: its members lose access, its data is kept for 90 days and then erased, except the audit log, which is kept for seven years. See Closing an organization.
- We may suspend or close an account or organization that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. We will tell you why, unless the law or the risk prevents it.
Availability
We work to keep Patratus running and your data safe, but we cannot promise that it will always be available or free of errors, unless we have agreed a service level with your organization in writing. The security page says what is in place today.
No warranties
As far as the law allows, Patratus is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue or data. Our total liability for any claim about Patratus is limited to the amount your organization paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event that led to the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
Changes to these terms
We post every change on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell organization owners before it takes effect. If you keep using Patratus after that, you accept the new terms.
