Plans and billing
Billing shows your organization's plan, its trial or billing period, and how much of each limit you are using. Every member can see it; only owners change the plan. Owners reach it from the main navigation.
Plans
| Plan | For |
|---|---|
| Personal | One person working alone, with everything in the app. Free, and no card is needed. |
| Research | A research team: the Research menu, a team, co-editing and export, with limits. No institutions, meetings or briefings, no Initiatives. |
| Organization | An organization: everything in the app (Statecraft, Research and Initiatives), a team and regular team meetings. |
| Enterprise | Single sign-on, data contracts, expanded coverage and a dedicated deployment option. Arranged with us. |
Each plan card lists what the plan includes: its menus, how many people, locations, projects and private sources, its monthly AI budget and its features. Personal is for one person and has no team; Research and Organization add team members, invitations and co-editing, and Organization adds regular team meetings, from a weekly check-in to a quarterly review.
The monthly AI budgets are US$10 on Personal, US$50 on Research and US$200 on Organization; Enterprise has no AI budget limit. See Limits for what happens when a budget is used up.
Prices are in US dollars, per month, and every card names the currency (for example "About US$1,499 a month"). The prices shown are examples while plans are being set: the cards mark them "example price". How tax such as VAT applies will be set out with the final prices.
Enterprise is arranged with us: write to us for early access. What it adds is set up by an owner on the Enterprise page: single sign-on and directory sync, API keys, the REST API and MCP, webhooks, bulk export and audit-log export; a dedicated deployment is arranged per customer.
A personal workspace is always on Personal. To use a team plan, create an organization from Setup (see Getting started).
What each button does
Each plan card says under its buttons what they cost and what happens next.
- Start a free trial of plan starts the organization's one trial. A trial started in the app asks for no card and charges nothing. It lasts 14 days unless your deployment sets another length; the price list and the plan cards say how long.
- Choose plan puts the organization on that plan at once, without a trial (or ends the trial, if one is running). Where payments are not switched on, Billing says so and nothing is charged.
Where payments are switched on, the app has no trial or plan buttons: plans, trials and payment details are managed in the billing settings of your organization profile (the organization menu in the header), and Refresh from the billing provider brings Billing up to date. Whether a trial there asks for a card depends on how payments are set up; the price list says so once it has been stated for your deployment.
Trials
An organization can have one free trial, of Research or Organization. Owners start it on a plan card, on Billing or in Setup, and Billing counts the days left.
A trial started in the app never turns into a paid plan by itself, and there is nothing to cancel: it ends by itself on its end date. When it ends and no owner has chosen a plan, the organization lapses (see When a plan lapses): nothing is deleted, and everything stays readable and exportable. To go on adding work, an owner chooses a plan on Billing, before or after the end date.
To keep the plan you are trying, an owner chooses it during the trial: the trial plan's card says Choose plan now, which ends the trial and keeps the plan.
Changing or cancelling a plan
Owners choose Choose plan on another plan card; the change applies at once. Cancel at the end of the period asks you to confirm, then keeps the plan until its period ends, after which the organization lapses. Until then Keep the plan undoes it.
Limits
Each limit shows a meter:
- below 80 %: nothing to do;
- Nearly at the limit from 80 %;
- at the limit, creating another (a project, a location, a private source upload, an invitation) is refused with a message naming the limit;
- the AI budget: AI spend counts from the 1st of each calendar month (UTC). When it reaches the plan's AI budget, new AI tasks don't run until the 1st of the next month. Uploads, search and everything else keep working, and nothing is charged beyond the budget.
The people limit counts every member who holds a role; a pending invitation also counts from when you invite (see Team).
A limit, or a lapsed plan, only stops new activity. Everything you already have stays readable, searchable and exportable, and the organization export always works.
When a plan lapses
A lapsed organization can read everything but cannot create projects, locations, private sources or invitations. An owner restores it by choosing a plan on Billing.
