Participation log and watchlist
The participation log is your workspace's record of what people did through official channels (attended a meeting, submitted a public comment, testified, applied for a seat, asked a question) and what came of it. The watchlist is what the workspace follows. Both come with the Opportunity Radar and belong to the workspace only.
The platform never takes part for you. Nothing in the log is sent, submitted or filed anywhere: you comment, testify or apply where the body asks you to, then record it here.
Who can do what
| Role | Read the log and watchlist | Record, update, delete; watch and unwatch |
|---|---|---|
| Reader | Yes | No |
| Researcher, editor or project lead | Yes | Yes |
| Owner | Yes | Yes |
Every change is recorded in the workspace's audit log.
Recording what you did
Open Statecraft → Participation, or choose Record what you did on an opportunity, meeting or matter: the form then knows what the entry is about and links to it.
- What you did and Done or planned: a planned entry (testimony at next week's hearing) can be marked done later.
- Title, When (in your own time zone, named beside the field), and Notes.
- Official channel used: a link to where you took part, if there is one.
- Outcome so far and an outcome note: waiting to hear, acknowledged, successful, unsuccessful, no response, or unknown.
An entry about a public record is filed under the same government as that record, so it shows up for the right place. The opportunity's page lists your entries under What we have done.
Outcomes
Update an entry's outcome as you hear back: choose it, add a note ("Confirmed by email"), and Save outcome. Outcomes recorded during a week appear in that week's briefing. Saving without a change writes nothing.
Deleting
Delete…, then Delete entry removes an entry from the log. The audit log keeps a record that it existed and who removed it.
The watchlist
Watch on a body, meeting, agenda item, matter or opportunity adds it to the watchlist; Watching on the same page stops. On Statecraft → Watchlist you can also watch a theme ("housing", "shorelines") and filter by kind. A record that is no longer found at its source stays on the list, marked as such.
Watched opportunities are marked Watched in the weekly briefing's deadlines, and Only what we watch on the Opportunity Radar narrows the radar to them.
Linking to issues
On an issue's page, Links finds the bodies, meetings, agenda items, matters and opportunities the issue is about, by name, and links them. The participation entries about each of those records are on the record's own page.
