Matching
A task can name the skills it needs. Matches on the task suggests people and shared resources that offer those skills, with the reasons, so someone can ask them. A match is only ever a suggestion: nothing is assigned until the person asked says yes.
Matching is part of the Resource network. Any member of the task's initiative team can see its matches and send a suggestion; for a restricted initiative you cannot see, the task is "not found".
Required skills
Set Required skills on a task in its initiative (up to 20). Skills match regardless of capitals or spacing.
Who is matched
- People whose expertise is listed with their consent, and who offer at least one of the skills. Expertise kept private never appears.
- Resources you can see that offer one of the skills, such as a shared mapping service.
Each match says why, in words you can check: the skills it matched on, and when the person or resource is available before the task is due (or in the next two weeks, for a task with no due date). Each matched skill weighs more than availability, so the best skill fit comes first.
Suggesting
Choose Suggest on a match, with an optional message. The suggestion goes to the person, or to the resource's owner:
- the task must be open, and for a person, have no assignee yet;
- you cannot suggest yourself (assign the task to yourself instead);
- the candidate must actually match; and
- only one suggestion per task and candidate waits at a time.
On a restricted initiative, add the person to its team before suggesting them.
Answering
You are notified when you, or a resource you own, are suggested for a task, depending on your notification settings. Only the person asked can answer:
- Accept a suggestion for a person: you are assigned the task.
- Accept a suggestion for a resource: a request for it opens, already accepted; see Resource network.
- Decline: the suggestion closes and the task stays unassigned.
Whoever made the suggestion is told when it is accepted.
If the task was closed or assigned in the meantime, accepting is refused.
