Slack

Post your organization's progress to one Slack channel: milestones completed, decisions logged, rituals coming due and adjourned, votes, policies and more, and a weekly digest. Owners set it up under Initiatives → Integrations → Slack.

What is never posted

A Slack channel reaches everyone in it, and people outside your organization can be invited, so nothing walled is posted:

  • nothing about a restricted initiative (its milestones, decisions, outcomes and lessons included);
  • nothing that belongs to a restricted project behind an information barrier;
  • nothing personal or financial: assignments, due reminders, approvals, expenses and onboarding are not offered at all.

The check runs when the message is built, not when the event happened, so an initiative restricted after the fact is not posted. A post that is held back is listed under Recent posts as Not posted with the reason; its text is never kept. Posts name records (a milestone, a decision, a policy) and link to them; they do not name people.

Setting it up

  1. Choose Connect Slack and install the app in your workspace. It asks to post messages (chat:write, chat:write.public) and to list public channels (channels:read), nothing else.
  2. Choose the Channel: any public channel of the workspace.
  3. Choose what to post under Post when. Milestones completed, decisions logged, rituals due and adjourned, and policies adopted are on by default.
  4. Optionally turn on the Weekly digest and choose its day, hour and time zone. It lists milestones completed in the past week and due in the next, decisions logged and rituals coming up, with the same exclusions.
  5. Choose Save, then Post a test message to check.

Saving makes you the owner the posts are sent on behalf of. Scheduled posts and the digest go out on your standing authorization; if you stop being an owner, posting stops (each held-back post says so) until another owner saves the settings. There are no slash commands and no link previews.

Disconnect revokes the app's token and stops posting. If Slack revokes the token or the app is removed, the connection shows Reconnect needed.

Sample mode

Without a Slack app configured on the deployment, Slack runs in sample mode: installing returns at once, the channel list is a sample one, and posts are recorded but never sent. The page says so.
