Coverage requests and coverage packs
The platform monitors a place's public sources through coverage packs. A coverage pack covers one place (a city, a county, a national legislature). It holds the connectors for that place (small programs that each read one official source on a schedule), saved test cases that show the connectors read the source correctly, and a survey of each source's terms. This page explains how a member asks for a place, and how the people who run the platform turn a request into monitored coverage. What the coverage banner's statuses mean is in Sources, "Coverage".
Requesting coverage (members)
Where the coverage banner says a place is Not monitored, it offers Request coverage for <place>: the city, town or county first, then districts and special-purpose bodies, at most three. The link opens Sources → Coverage requests with the place filled in.
- Add the place's official website if you know it (it helps find where agendas are published) and what you need, such as "council and planning commission agendas". Both are optional.
- Your organization has one waiting request per place. Asking again, from anyone in the organization, shows the existing request instead of a new one.
- The list shows every request your organization made and its status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Requested | Received; nobody has looked at the place yet. |
| Planned | The agenda website the place uses is confirmed; a coverage pack is being prepared or checked. |
| Covered | The place's pack is active: its sources count as monitored. |
| Declined | The place cannot be covered for now; the note says why (for example, no agendas are published online). |
| Withdrawn | Someone in your organization withdrew it. |
Any member can withdraw a request that is still Requested or Planned. Requests are private to your organization. The people who run the platform see how many organizations asked for a place and how many are on a paid plan, not who asked.
A pack's lifecycle
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Written, and its automatic tests pass, but not checked yet. Its places read as Not monitored. |
| Verifying | A person reviewed the terms and started the 7-day run; the connectors run on schedule. |
| Active | The 7-day run passed and a person activated it: its places and source kinds count as coverage. |
| Degraded | Active, but the daily health check found a problem (failing or stale runs); coverage shows it. |
| Retired | Taken out of service, with a reason. Its places read as Not monitored. |
