Impact Analytics

Impact Analytics shows how your published work reaches people and how well it is sourced, as aggregate numbers with their definitions beside them. It never identifies a reader.

Open it from Research in the main navigation, then Impact Analytics: the period's numbers, a weekly table, each publication's numbers, and the citation scans. Each publication has its own page with its citations.

The numbers

Choose a period (by default the last 90 days, at most two years). Each card has How this is counted: what the number counts, what it leaves out and how far it can be broken down.

  • Page views: times the platform served a public page of one of your publications, per publication and UTC day. Only the count is kept: no account, network address, device, cookie or referrer is read or stored. Views served from a cache, a proxy or a copy elsewhere never reach the platform, so the number is a lower bound. Automated visitors are not filtered out.
  • Downloads: PDF, Word and Markdown downloads of a published version, counted the same way.
  • Citations in later public records: public documents the platform collected from public sources, dated after a publication first appeared, that contain its public address, or its exact title when the title is at least 24 characters long. Each document counts once per publication. Paraphrases and private documents are not counted.
  • Source coverage: for each live publication, how many passages it cites, from how many documents and publishers, the share of cited documents that are public records anyone can check, and how much comes from its most-cited publisher.
  • Time to publish: the median days from creating a document or position to its first publication, for first publications in the period.
  • Correction rate: the share of versions published in the period that corrected an earlier version.

The weekly table shows views, downloads and citations by week; the publications table shows each publication's numbers. Withdrawn publications are marked.

Citation scans

Every Monday morning (UTC) the platform scans the public documents collected since the last scan for your publications' addresses and titles. Scan for citations now starts a scan on request (one at a time). The list shows each scan's status, how many documents it read and how many citations it found; a publication's page lists the citing documents, their publisher and date, and the matched text.
