Projects
A project groups the issues and work for one campaign, programme or question, such as a shoreline campaign or a levy renewal. Projects keep a busy workspace navigable, and they let you give someone a role in one project without giving it to them everywhere.
The project menu
The Project menu in the header narrows the app to one project:
- Issues lists only that project's issues.
- New issue files new issues under it.
All projects shows everything. The choice is part of the page address, so a link you share opens on the same project.
An archived project stays selected if you open an old link to it, labelled "Archived or unavailable project". Choose another project to move on.
Creating and editing projects
Go to Projects to see every live project. Tick Show archived to include archived ones.
Owners and project leads can:
- create a project;
- rename it and edit its description;
- archive and restore it.
Each live project needs a different name; the comparison ignores case.
Archiving
Archiving a project hides it from the project menu and the projects list. Nothing is deleted:
- its issues, links and history stay as they are;
- no new issue can be filed under it while it is archived;
- Restore brings it back.
Projects are never deleted, so their history stays intact.
Restricted projects
Mark a project restricted when its work is sensitive, such as board-only planning or legal strategy. Only an owner can set or clear the flag, and every change is in the audit log.
In this release, every member of the workspace can still see a restricted project and its issues. Information barriers, which arrive in a later release, will use the flag to hide restricted projects from people on the other side of a barrier. Marking projects now means they are protected as soon as barriers are turned on.
Project roles
Roles can be granted for the whole workspace or for one project (Admin → Members and roles: pick a role and a project). A project role counts only inside that project. For example, someone who is a reader across the workspace and the project lead for "Shoreline campaign" can:
- rename, archive and restore that project;
- open and edit issues in it;
- only read everything else.
A workspace-wide role applies in every project, and an owner can do everything everywhere.
Who can do what
| Action | Who |
|---|---|
| See projects and the project menu | Every member |
| Create a project | Owners and project leads (workspace-wide) |
| Rename, describe, archive and restore | Owners, workspace-wide project leads, and project leads of that project |
| Mark a project restricted, or clear it | Owners |
Plan limits
| Plan | Live projects |
|---|---|
| Personal | Unlimited |
| Research | 10 |
| Organization | Unlimited |
| Enterprise | Unlimited |
Limits are shown under Admin → Usage and spend. Billing, which arrives in a later release, enforces them; a limit never blocks access to existing data or export.
