Public graph
The public graph is a download of the public record for one jurisdiction (one government, such as a county or a city): its public institutions, the public roles in them and the relations between institutions, as open files. Open it from Analytics → Public graph and choose a jurisdiction. Anyone can download it; it needs no workspace.
What it contains
Only public records: what the platform collected from public sources. Nothing from any workspace is ever included: not your notes, projects or private uploads, and nothing from the sources a workspace added itself.
- Institutions in the jurisdiction, and institutions elsewhere that one of their relations reaches.
- Public roles as published: title, holder name, status, district, term and official URL. Office contact details and party are not included.
- Relations between institutions (for example, a committee of a council).
Only the jurisdiction you pick is included, not the places inside it: pick each place you want.
Formats
| Format | What it is |
|---|---|
| GraphML | One graph file, for network tools such as Gephi or Cytoscape. |
| Nodes CSV | One row per institution and public role. |
| Edges CSV | One row per relation, and per role and its institution. |
| Credits | One row per source: publisher, terms, terms URL and whether attribution is due. |
Provenance and credits
Every node and edge carries where it came from, in its own columns: the source document's ID and address, the publisher, the terms label, when it was fetched, and which connector (the program that reads that source) fetched it. The page lists the licence credits of every source in the download, with its terms and a mark where attribution is required. When you reuse the files, keep the provenance columns and credit the sources as their terms ask.
A download carries at most 20,000 rows of each kind. For a larger jurisdiction, the download is refused with a message that asks you to pick a smaller one.
