Onboarding checklists

Onboarding gives each new member a short checklist for their first weeks, and lets project leads see how far everyone has got. The setup wizard installs a starter checklist; see Getting started. Your open checklist also shows on the workspace home: its next three items, each a link to where it is done, and a link to the whole checklist.

Your checklist

Onboarding shows the checklists assigned to you, each with its items, your buddy and a due date if one was set. Tick items as you do them; each one links to the page where it happens. The starter checklist asks you to:

  1. Set your expertise, so the right work can find you. You choose who sees it; see Resource network.
  2. Read the procedures, how recurring work is done here; see Procedures.
  3. Join a committee: read the charters (an owner adds the members); see Governance.
  4. Attend a triage, where unowned work gets an owner; see Rituals.

Only you tick your own items. A checklist is complete when every item is ticked.

The starter set

Owners see Starter set on Onboarding. Once it is installed, by Setup's rituals step or from here, the section says what it holds: the welcome checklist, who it is assigned to, and on a plan with rituals the five rituals. Until then it offers Install the starter set. If the checklist was installed on a plan without rituals and the plan now has them, it offers Add the five rituals. Installing twice, even with two clicks at once, adds nothing twice.

Managing checklists

Project leads (and owners) manage checklists and assignments:

  • Checklists. Write a checklist of up to 40 items, each with a title, a detail and an optional link. Mark one as the default for a role, or the default for everyone: there is at most one of each.
  • Automatic assignment. When a member is first given an organization-wide role, the default checklist for that role (or the default for everyone) is assigned to them. It happens once per member.
  • Assign by hand. Assign any checklist to a member; assigning the same one again while it is live does nothing. Set a buddy and a due date, or cancel an assignment.
  • Progress. Onboarding → Assignments lists every live assignment with how many items are done.

Editing a checklist never changes assignments already made: each member keeps the items they were given.

Reminders

Depending on your notification settings, you are told when a checklist is assigned to you.
